Only a short time ago, it's unlikely there would have been too many doubts about Quentin Tarantino's 9th, and allegedly penultimate film as writer-director.

Not unlike Scorcese, Tarantino's films have always tended to be showered more in critical praise and awards recognition than box office reciepts. Still, 2007's Grindhouse notwithstanding, the esteemed filmmaker's most expensive works have tended to recoup their budgets: the $70 million budgeted Inglourious Basterds took over $321 million worldwide, whilst the $100 million Django Unchained made over $425 million.

This, however, was before Kill Bill star Uma Thurman released footage of an injury she suffered on a stunt driving scene the director demanded she perform against her will on the 2004 action epic. Since then, recordings have resurfaced of a 2003 interview Tarantino gave on the Howard Stern radio show in which he defended Roman Polanski against his long-standing statutory rape charges.

On top of all this, Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be partially based around the notorious Manson Family murders of 1969. The director's decision to tackle such sensitive real-life subject matter has not gone down well in all corners.

In the wake of all this damage to Tarantino's reputation, will there be a big enough audience still willing to pay to see his next film once it arrives?
