7 Key Mistakes Upcoming Movie Reboots Must Avoid

5. Jumanji – Turning Into An All-Out Action Movie

Even with its hugely dated special effects and questionable child acting, Jumanji has sealed its place as a classic the whole family can enjoy. There’s something special about it that’s hard to quantify but one thing’s for certain, you’re unlikely to find anyone who doesn’t have fond memories of the board game based adventure.

Much of the success can obviously be attributed to the late, great Robin Williams’ performance which manages to combine pathos and humour in ways that only he could have made possible.

That’s some big shoes to fill. To remake such a beloved classic is no small task - just look at the backlash that, rightly or wrongly, Ghostbusters received. No pressure guys.

Judging by the information released so far, it’s clear to see that they’re taking a new approach to the story. It looks more action packed than the original which is by no means a bad thing. However, if explosive set pieces are all it has to offer – it’s losing sight of what made the original so special to so many.

There's cause for concern that it’s going to turn out to be a glorified star vehicle for Dwayne Johnson. The infinitely bankable ex-wrestler is set to play a character the movie’s posters refer to as, no word of a lie, ‘The Smouldering Dr Bravestone’.

Now that you’ve finished sighing and rolling your eyes it’s time to cross your fingers and hope that the team behind this year’s Jumanji reboot have created something that lives up to its iconic name.
