7 Most Overrated Comic Book Movie Performances

Are these acting turns as good as we've made them out to be?

There are some comic book movie performances that are so perfect, iconic and revelatory that they cannot be considered anything other than brilliant: Heath Ledger as the Joker, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor (just kidding on that last one).

As modern movie-goers obsessed with superhero movies, we do love it when a comic book movie performance goes right, because they're inherently tricky things to master; you've got a long and extensive character history to indulge and respect, whilst also ensuring to bring something fresh and progressive to the role.

Our enthusiasm for comic book movie performances that do anything other than suck therefore often results in them being given more credit than they deserve, though - either because audiences don't know any better and have nothing to compare them to, or because everyone decide to go along with everyone else out of fear of being in the minority. In some cases, a performance that was once deemed great has dated over the years, rendering it overrated because nobody has gone back to check whether it still holds up.

My intention here was to highlight some notable comic book movie performances that don't quite match up to the praise that they've received. In most cases, the actors in question delivered okay to fine turns in their respective roles, but have been vastly overvalued.

Time to bring them down a peg or two...
