7 Movie Characters Everyone Hates On For The Wrong Reasons

7. Mutt Williams - Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Why Everyone Hates Him: "This is the guy they're trying to get to usurp Indiana Jones? A whiny greaser played by Shia LaBeouf?! You gotta be kidding me!" But Wait... There's no denying the fact that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sucked on a number of levels, and though much of the hate is levelled at things like, oh, nuked fridges and alien encounters, a ton of it was also directed towards Indy's new son, Mutt Williams, as played by Shia LaBeouf. The most common criticism of his character, however, went - quite simply - something like "he's Shia LaBeouf," which is both unfair and kind of ridiculous. Because think about it for a second: when you're hating on a character for being played by a certain actor, you're criticising it at the most basic, redundant level. It's just not something that can specifically be levelled against the character of Mutt Williams himself. Jar Jar was annoying, so we hated him for it. Mutt... well, Mutt's not the greatest character of all time, but did he ruin the movie? Was he really a major reason why the movie sucked like it did? Hardly. The problem is that so many have redirected their hatred for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at Mutt Williams and Shia LaBeouf, and it doesn't ring true: we hate Mutt because he's represents the "new Indy film" in its most basic aspect, but he's a poor representation of the movie's true flaws. People also hate on Mutt because he looked poised to take over the franchise. But he didn't, and he hasn't. So we hate this character for something that never happened, too?
