7 Over-Looked Hints That Suicide Squad Will Be Awesome

It's not all just about Mr. J and Harley Quinn, y'know.

The buzz on Suicide Squad is currently off the charts. There's the excitement to see Jared Leto's Joker, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and an appearance from Batfleck, not to mention the added incentive of seeing Will Smith say the name of the movie, in the movie(!). And massive hype was built on the back of the comic-con trailer from earlier this year. There's a wide variety of characters set to debut in 'Squad that haven't been seen before, let alone the new versions of fan favourites. But it's the focus on the latter that has diverted the spotlight from those elements of Suicide Squad that deserve equal amounts of excitement. And it would be wrong not to acknowledge the air of doubt surrounding the film. Some of the costumes look a little 'off' (the prosthetics on Killer Croc look fairly dodgy) and the presence of perennial do-gooder Will Smith in the role of true anti-hero Deadshot lends credence to a loss of faith in the adaptation. After all, he could dilute Deadshot's appeal, or distance the character too much from the source material. But between the obvious (Joker, Harley, Batman) and the doubt-inducing (seriously, that Killer Croc get-up is weird) there's so much more to be celebrated ahead of release...

7. The Mythology

In the world of Suicide Squad, these villains already exist and have been operating for some time. We already know that Ben Affleck's rendition of Batman will have been in the game for years and is now an older, fatigued Caped Crusader. That means some of these bad guys will have been out there for equally as long, if not longer. Viewers will then have rich yet easy-to-understand characters from the off with the occasional flashback for the really important backstory. Furthermore, this is an interesting experiment for DC/Warner Bros to really explain a lot about their interconnected universe in one fell swoop. It can shine a light on this incarnation of Batman before Affleck's planned solo outing a few years from now; and I can already predict that kind of excitement toward the film thanks to the trailer, given that we've already seen the allusions to him at one point having a Robin by his side (what with that blink-and-miss monument to the Boy Wonder's costume). My feeling is that there's going to be loads to digest in this movie, even as easter eggs and tidbits - and I can guarantee that Zack Snyder, director David Ayer and the rest of the DC/WB braintrust have been prescient enough to lay clues for the future too.
