7 Reasons Why Bane Wasn't All That Bad

3. He's Humane

What sort of a super-villain installs basic cable inside an underground pit? That's pretty freaking kind if you ask me, even if it is ultimately for Bruce to watch Gotham burning to ash. Still, there are countless points throughout the narrative where Bane shows sure mercy to those around him; even Wayne, whose back he breaks, is given a fighting chance to escape the pit, for Bane could easily have confined him to his own cell with no means of escape and no medical aid from the other prisoners. Rather, the light of the surface serves as a glimmer of hope, and though Bane didn't expect Bruce to escape, let alone become healthy enough to fight, it must have always been in the back of his mind. Death wasn't so much a concern for Bane as showing Wayne his city crumbling, and only then, as he said, would he give Bruce permission to die. Other instances include supplying food and water to the police who are buried underground for three months; it follows along the same method of giving the people a small sliver of hope, before pulling the rug out, but still, he could have done much worse. The point is that we see from this how different Bane is to The Joker; he is not a maniacal murderer in the same way, for we can at least observe some logic, no matter how misguided, and some of his points weren't that far wrong...
