Is it
that hard to make a good superhero movie? Many have tried, but few have succeeded. Sadly we can now add Shane Black to the list of those who've failed to do so. Iron Man 3 isn't the worst superhero movie by any stretch of the imagination. It's certainly better than any of those Nolan Batman movies. By better I mean it has a much welcomed since of levity which is what you get when you hire Shane Black. In the middle of the darkest situation, he has the ability to make you laugh your head off with a funny one-liner. That's why, even though the Marvel cinematic universe has been a colossal disappointment, I still held out hope that Shane Black's pen and Robert Downey Jr.'s mouth could produce a little bit of magic. Sadly, whatever magic did transpire was overshadowed by and abundance of plot holes and embarrassing narrative errors. Not even the signature Shane Black polish could fix everything that was wrong with Iron Man 3. I guess you could say it's my own fault. Truth be told, I probably wouldn't have written this article if I had not remembered to turn my brain back on. Leaving Iron Man 3, I should have left my brain in standby mode and went along my merry way but nope, I had to do some thinking. Soon after my brain reactivated I kissed the feasibly good time I had at the movies goodbye. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but I had to realize that, apart from being a marginally exciting way to spend a few hours, Iron Man 3 is perhaps one of the most ill-conceived and unsatisfying movies of the year so far.
