7 Surprisingly Dark Moments From Your Favourite Christmas Movies

5. The Ghost Of Christmas Future Is Terrifying - The Muppet Christmas Carol

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a true delight that mixes the usual Muppet mayhem with a surprisingly straight-laced and effective rendition of Dickens' classic tale. However, alongside Statler and Waldorf's comedy Marley ghosts and cute felt frogs, there is one of the most terrifying versions of The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in any Christmas Carol adaptation. For the visit of the third ghost, the filmmakers chuck out their carefully-trodden middle ground between making it not too full-on for kids without watering it down and instead bring on the scariest creation to come out of the Jim Henson Workshop since The Dark Crystal. Whereas the Muppets are so endearingly home-grown, with their ping-pong ball eyes and fabric faces, the Ghost of Christmas Future has only bony hands and a black gaping hole for a face. After watching this scene, Christmas Future will surely involve the audience too frightened to sleep on Christmas Eve.
