7 Ways Movie Theaters Can Be More Exciting

BigTheater

Going to the movie theater is a cultural pastime, an experience that just about everyone partakes in at least once in their lives. Watching a movie on the big screen can be bigger than life, enveloping, cathartic. It€™s one of the only socially acceptable norms where a group of strangers can gather in the same room and laugh with each other, cry with each other, and eat junk with each other.

Although total box office dollars have never been higher, the amount of movie tickets sold has decreased over recent years. In 2012, 1.36 billion movie tickets were sold. Sounds like a lot huh? Well, not if you compare that to 2002, in which 1.57 billion tickets sold, a decrease of 210 million tickets. So why the decrease?

There are several big reasons as to why: economy bust, new forms of entertainment, home video. The movie industry€™s reaction to sagging ticket sales has been to steadily mark up prices and introduce a steady stream of upcharged 3D movies. This may actually be doing more harm in the long run: 3D sales are starting to drop off and people really are getting tired of paying more than $10 for a movie ticket.

So what can be done to get people back into our coveted theaters? Here are a few ideas that could possible help boost attendance.
