Alec Guinness did not have a good time making Star Wars. If it wasn't bad enough that he hated the script and couldn't even figure out what Harrison Ford's name was ("Tennyson Ford... that can't be right", he wrote to a friend), he also had to deal with an over-eager Mark Hamill, who had the gall to be a fan of Guinness's work.

According to Carrie Fisher, Guinness, tired of Hamill asking him questions about his career, gave the young actor 20 pounds just to leave him alone. Guinness reserved his finest rejection for a much younger fan, however, and after Star Wars had come out and made him an even bigger star.

As a mother and child came up to Guinness on the street, praising Guinness for what he considered to be "fairytale rubbish" and claiming the boy had watched the film 100 times, the actor was more than ready to put the kid down. "Do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again?", he said witheringly, resulting in an angry mother and tears from someone who probably then grew up cheering Darth Vader on in A New Hope's Death Star duel.
