8 Alternate Versions of Famous Blockbuster Movies

We reflect on the awesomeness that could have been if Terry Gilliam had directed Watchmen.

When it comes to blockbuster movies, the first draft of the script is very rarely what makes it to the screen, and sometimes the two are almost unrecognizable. Directors of lower budget movies are much more likely to be given autonomy over their projects, down to the obvious fact that there is much less at stake. When it comes to movies with a price tag of $100m and above, plus countless millions more in marketing and merchandise, there are simply too many people in the big machine to be kept happy for everything to be plain sailing. Whether it be years stuck in development, multiple script drafts, budget concerns or the old classic 'creative differences', this article will take a look at eight blockbuster movies that hit theaters in a much different form than when they were originally announced. If you believe in alternative universes, perhaps these movies exist somewhere in one of them. Nonetheless, read on and find out about the big-budget epics that could have been. Were the movies released in theaters fine the way they were? Would you have preferred to have seen any of these versions over the original? Are there any other alternate blockbusters that you would have included on the list? As always, sound off in the comments below.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
