8 Disturbing Times Actors Were Brought Back From The Dead By CGI

4. Peter Cushing (Rogue One)

Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin was as essential to Rogue One's story as Darth Vader and the Death Star, so Disney's creative team and director Gareth Edwards had to figure out a way to bring the character back.

They could have cast a lookalike in the role, but decided to rebuild Cushing instead. They had the technology!

This was the moment digital resurrection reached a frightening new level, as Rogue One was able to recreate the actor's likeness right down to his most subtle mannerisms, facial ticks and expressions.

Okay, so under close scrutiny the eye tracking was a tad inhuman, but this collection of pixels possessed every inch of Cushing's authority and cold arrogance.

Although digital resurrection is a concept that stretches back much further than Rogue One, the Star Wars prequel pulled it off convincingly enough explode the debate over its ethicality into the fore.
