8 Dumb Movie Fan Theories That People Actually Believe

8. Batman Forever And Batman And Robin Are Movies Within The Tim Burton Era

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Theory: Batman Forever and Batman And Robin are not popular amongst Bat-Fans. Although they€™re intended to be sequels there was a huge tonal shift from Tim Burton€™s gothic, solemn take and Joel Schumacher€™s campy, neon drenched vision. This was so hard for some fans to reconcile that they came up with an explanation.

In their mind Michael Keaton€™s Batman revealed his true identity, retired and sold his story to Hollywood. This means that Schumacher€™s movies are actually glossy blockbusters within Tim Burton€™s era. Where Burton€™s Gotham is dark and depressing; the movie version is bright and colourful.

The product placement is more obvious, Harvey Dent has changed race, Batman gets some sidekicks and his rougher edges, like killing people, have been trimmed away.

Why It's Dumb: This is a creative way to dismiss the Schumacher movies but it doesn€™t work. Schumacher€™s films were always intended to follow-up the Burton saga, and the change in style is down to his taste as a filmmaker. Added to that Alfred and Commissioner Gordon are played by the same actors who appeared in Burton€™s movies, and it's super unlikely that Keaton€™s Bruce Wayne has abandoned his life's mission to cash in.
