8 Method Actors Who Nearly Died Making Famous Movies

5. Tom Cruise Sprints Around A Mile-High Building For MI4

Tom Cruise isn't a method actor. In fact, some would say he's not even an actor, spending the majority of his time either starring in turgid blockbusters or making promotional videos for some sort of madcap club called 'Scientology'. But for the scene in Mission: Impossible 4, in which his character must climb and then run alongside Dubai's 828-metre-tall Burj Khalifa building, Cruise sent the stuntman home and did exactly what Hunt was required to do himself. Sure, Cruise was attached to a harness during MI4's Burj Khalifa scene, so it's not like he was totally in character. But stunts have gone wrong before, and there are few - if any - other star actors in Hollywood who would have stepped out onto the skyscraper a mile above the ground when they didn't need to, harness or no. The Burj Khalifa sequence is inarguably the best scene in MI4, and it's aided by Cruise's commitment as well as the knowledge that he could die at any second. Depending on your feelings on Cruise, the knowledge that he survived will leave you either anxious or relieved.
