8 Sci-Fi Films That Should Totally Be Rebooted

8. Timecop

Timecop A serviceable Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle in the early 90s €“ which is shorthand for awesome in a just plain awful way €“ Timecop concerns itself with a government agency who can time travel in the futuristic world of 2004(!) and the clandestine machinations of shady politician. What follows is a simple bullets-and-brawn with an intriguing sideline in the effects of time travel. The premise for this film is awesome and features all kinds of insane time-jumps, from the American Civil War to the Wall Street Crash. But I would ask something €“ why stop there? Time-travel is something akin to a Pandora€™s Box in two ways €“ on the negative side, it can be difficult to make sense of the film€™s internal structure, but on the positive, you can pretty much set your film anywhere, and do anything with it. So if any potential Timecop reboots were to acquire a decent writer with some imagination, god knows what they could achieve. After all, it€™s the equivalent of a creative toybox €“ they can go anywhere and do anything, giving the writer a sense of freedom unparalleled in any other project. If you can combine this with the presence of a big modern-day action star €“ lets say Sam Worthington or Gina Carano €“ you might just resurrect something beautiful. Timecop is already taking the first tentative steps toward a reboot after an announcement last May that Marc Shmuger was taking on the producer reins. We can only hope that it doesn€™t end up in development hell like all its other brethren from that era , because quite frankly, it€™s too good an opportunity to miss.
