After Matthew Vaughn put the the franchise back on the right track with X-Men: First Class in 2011, Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days Of Future Past continued down that path and grossed a very healthy $748 million last year. That's an impressive number, especially as it was a movie which dealt with a lot of complicated time travel and comic book-y mutant-hunting robots.

Of course, much of its appeal came down to the fact that the movie featured characters from both the old X-Men franchise and the new one, a plot point that X-Men: Apocalypse won't be returning to. However, it still has more than enough going for it to ensure that it surpasses the amount made by its predecessor.

There's the cast for starters, along with the X-Men being set to take on one of their most iconic villains from the comics. Oscar Isaac plays him, and the actor being seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December is no doubt going to increase interest when moviegoers recognise him in the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse.

And with recent rumours of a crossover with the Fantastic Four in 2018, there is a long term incentive to checking this one out.
