8 Upcoming Superhero Movies Guaranteed To Make A Billion Dollars

5. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

No one expected Guardians Of The Galaxy to be a box office hit. For months it was dismissed as Marvel's first mistake and no doubt their first flop, and the majority of box office analysts predicted that it would do numbers similar to the early Marvel Studios movies (so, around the $300 million mark). Instead, Guardians earned $774 million and beat established franchises like Captain America, Spider-Man, and X-Men to become 2014's highest grossing superhero movie.

Based on the reaction to the first instalment and the sort of recognition everything from the movie itself to the soundtrack and dancing Baby Groot toys have received, the sequel - which was recently titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - should have no trouble sailing past the $1 billion mark in 2017.

Even if rumours of the Hulk showing up aren't true, this franchise doesn't need the help of an Avenger to find success. The fact that it's fleshing out the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Infinity War is more than enough to grab the attention of hardcore fans, while regular moviegoers have already fallen in love with these characters.

James Gunn returning to write and direct is another big plus, and with the mystery behind Star-Lord's father set to play a key role, it's hard to picture anyone not wanting to spend more time with these A-Holes.
