9 Abandoned Sequel Plots That Sound Better Than The Movies We Got

2. John Carpenter's Halloween IV

Halloween III: Season Of The Witch tried to tell an original story within the franchise – involving an Irish warlock making killer Halloween masks – but the audience revolted when they realised Michael Myers wasn’t coming back.

And so the producers demanded more Michael, despite the character being blown up in part two. They contacted series creator John Carpenter about writing/directing, and the helmer came up with a unique twist for it. His concept was that Haddonfield was haunted by Michael’s night of terror, so they banned the holiday and all mention of the killer.

By trying to suppress it they just cause him to re-emerge in a ghostly form and cause regular people to don the Shatner mask and kill, with Michael himself only appearing in flashback and dream sequences. The idea would have gone back to making Michael a force of nature instead of a person, but the producer thought it was too “cerebral” and rejected it.

Carpenter swiftly bailed, and while the Halloween IV that exists isn’t terrible, it’s basically just a remake with some creative tweaks.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
