9 Fantastic Movies Too Devastating To Watch More Than Once

8. Boys Don't Cry

Requiem For A Dream
Fox Searchlight Pictures

One thing that is all-but-guaranteed to make a film impossible to watch a second time around is a graphic rape scene. Any viewer with a soul will find it hard to sit through the sadistic humiliation and intense sexual assault of Hilary Swank's transgender character, Brandon Teena, in Boys Don't Cry.

That scene alone makes this impossible to go back to, even a decade or more later. Even a diehard fan of The Cure would be unable to disassociate the name of their song with the name of this movie after they've watched it.

The relationships presented between Teena and the "friends" he makes in small-town Nebraska never really play as anything more than a big ol' time bomb, but even though you know a fallout is coming, most well-adapted people would never suspect it to hit so hard.

It's barbaric, it's hateful, and although the tragic ending is somewhat necessary to drive home the point, it's a tough pill to swallow.

The movie has become even more relevant in today's society as transgender persons fight for equal rights, but don't let its cultural relevancy trick you into rewatching this movie. The ending does not change and you will still feel all kinds of helpless.
