9 Great Film Performances From Non-Actors

8. Tom Waits - Bram Stoker's Dracula

In his entire musical career Tom Waits has yet to release a bad album. Even his lesser albums are considered fantastic compared to other musicians. The same could be said for his sporadic film roles. He's worked with some of the best filmmakers, from Jim Jarmusch to Terry Gilliam. But watching him practically steal the movie in Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Dracula is an accomplishment unto itself. As the lunatic Renfield, Waits holds up his own against some of the UK's best actors including Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, and Richard E. Grant. He even claims he ate live bugs while filming. That is more dedication to a role than most actual actors are willing to go through. To this day Anthony Hopkins has yet to claim he actually killed any vampires.
