9 Movies That Were Scrapped After Being Filmed (And Why)

That 90s Fantastic Four wasn't even meant to be released.

Imagine pouring all of your time and effort (and in some cases, money) into a project that you believe will be a success, only to watch it fall at the final hurdle. Film making is, and always has been a fickle business, and countless directors (aspiring and established alike) have suffered that exact fate, watching on helplessly as the fruits of their labour are left to rot in some studio basement. It€™s no secret that it€™s getting harder and harder to get an original film made these days, with Hollywood€™s franchise-mania in full swing thanks to Marvel and the copycat studios set on emulating them. Even Christopher Nolan, who helmed the highest grossing film of 2008 in The Dark Knight, had a hard time getting his next film, Inception, onto the big screen, with some going as far as saying that Warner Bros only actually gave it the green light so that Nolan would agree to direct The Dark Knight Rises. Inception turned out to be a risk worth taking, but you can€™t help but feel that if it wasn€™t Christopher Nolan pitching the idea, then it might never have happened at all. Still, for those willing to put themselves out there and really push their film, the reward can be worth the struggle. Although sometimes it can all be for nought. The reasons for the ill-fated films on this particular list being scrapped vary, from bog standard financial and legal issues to floods, fires and death. Sometimes you have no choice as a director but to hold your hands up and concede that it simply wasn€™t meant to be.

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
