This week, Warner Brothers released
a full length trailer for the upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel. Unlike the all too brief teaser trailer released before The Dark Knight Rises, this new trailer gives us a look at some of the action in the film, thus satisfying the fears of many fans of a repeat of Superman Returns style emo-drama. With six months left before the release and excitement building more and more, Man of Steel is poised to be a box office success which means one thing: right now there is a Warner Brothers exec planning out the sequels. There are challenges that any superhero franchise faces when entering a second movie, but a Man of Steel sequel would be under even more pressure to prove the (assumed) success of the reboot wasn't a fluke. If the Dark Knight proved anything it's that nothing ups the ante in a superhero sequel like the right villain. So which villain is the most likely choice and how will they fit in with the upcoming Justice League movie? Here are the six Superman villains I believe will be in the running in order of likelihood.
6. Darkseid
Although a fan favorite, Darkseid is a long shot. He is an attractive option as he is one of only a few baddies that can go toe to toe with Superman. Recently, however, rumors have swirled that the dreaded god-like monarch of Apokolips will be taking on not just Supes but the rest of the Justice League in DC's answer to the Avengers. Still, it is hard to imagine a post-Justice League Superman film where the effects of Darkseid's havoc are not still lingering.
