Aladdin Trailer Breakdown: 10 Things You Need To See

9. Aladdin And Jasmine's First Meeting

The trailer makes a point of spending a lot of time paying very deliberate homage to the original animated film, which makes sense, that's how to get the highest number of butts in seats opening weekend. However, sandwiched in the middle of the trailer's whizz-bang opening is actually a nod to a far more obscure Aladdin property.

As he uses his agility and wits to escape the palace guards pursuing him, Aladdin sends a piece of scaffolding falling backward, sending a bunch of pink and red flower petals cascading into the air. Pleased with himself, he rounds the corner and comes face-to-face with (for what looks to be the very first time) an in-disguise Princess Jasmine.

This moment (flower petals, slow-motion and all) is taken pretty much verbatim from Disney's stage production of Aladdin. The production debuted on Broadway in July of 2011, won several Tony Awards, and looks to be a source of inspiration for the new film. So it's nice to see it get a bit of a nod here.
