Alien 5: 10 Big Questions That Need Answering

Neill Blomkamp's directing. But what does he have in store?

Alien 5 Giger It seemed destined to join the assembled ranks of other amazing, unmade Alien films, but today saw some most excellent news breaking. Neill Blomkamp €“ the South African director of District 9, Elysium and the upcoming Chappie €“ is in line to direct a new Alien film. The news comes a few weeks after the filmmaker revealed a bunch of xenomorph-related concept art on his Instagram account, with much explanation as to what they are. The suggestion at the time was Blomkamp's project was dead in the water, or else just being done for his own amusement. Now it turns out there is another, proper Alien sequel on the way (with no Predator scrapping or Prometheus fake outs!), although no more information had been released other than the director's involvement. The Alien franchise started off strong before heading quickly downhill with some less considered sequels, spin-offs and the like, but having one of the most interesting and talented sci-fi directors working today on board is rather reassuring. Still, fans will have more than their fair share of questions. How exactly will this new film incorporate the sprawling back story of the Alien universe, if indeed it does at all? Will all the characters seen in the concept art actually return to the franchise? And how will they fit Die Antwoord in? These are amongst the ten big questions that need answering about Neill Blomkamp's Alien film.
