Alien: Covenant - Everything You Need To Know

6. ...And That Trilogy Will Connect Directly Into Alien

One of the biggest criticisms of Prometheus was how, for all its shared iconography with Alien, there wasn't a solid link made between the black goo adventures shown here and what went down with the eggs and facehugger in the crashed derelict thirty-odd in-universe years later. That's all going to change soon. With the official press release stating that the Prometheus Trilogy "connects directly to Scott€™s 1979 seminal work of science fiction", it's looking like eventually every oblique question will get a clear, obvious answer. As Prometheus was thought of as a two-part experience from very early on, this was likely part of Scott's long standing grand plan anyway, although I wouldn't be surprised if the negative response to the prequel's ambiguity has led to this very explicit statement in the very first official word on the sequel. However, while that's the endgame, it doesn't speak totally of the movie at hand. What the whole trilogy idea really means for Alien: Covenant is that we'll probably journey further into the realm of confusing clues before actually getting to LV-426. There'll no doubt be a bit of fan service to avoid a repeat of the backlash, but don't be shocked if in 2017 you're still left with more questions than answers.
