Ant-Man And The Wasp: 11 Big Implications Of Marvel's Announcement

10. Marvel Goes 3 A Year

The additions of both Spider-Man and Ant-Man And The Wasp marks a very definite consolidation of the three pictures a year approach that's come in for Phase 3. So much for those accusations of superhero fatigue... But is it even enough? The biggest benefit to the audience of other studios owning the rights to Marvel's properties is that more films could be made. While three Marvel movies sounds like a lot because it's all coming from one source, if Fox and Sony and Warner Bros and Universal each had some of the rights alongside Marvel, we'd be looking at six or seven a year. And while some will inevitably sneer at the idea of that being a positive thing, it would mean broader diversity, more creative gambles and more films like Guardians of The Galaxy and Black Panther and Ant-Man. It also probably wouldn't have taken until now to make a female-led Marvel movie.
