Ant-Man And The Wasp Secures Its Screenwriters

Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari to write with Paul Rudd from a story by Adam McKay.

Deadline are reporting that screenwriting duo Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari have locked their deal to return as screenwriters for Ant-Man And The Wasp, the planned 2018 sequel to this year's modest success (if you want to call a $520 mil return on a $130 mil investment modest). The duo did an uncredited polish of Ant-Man's script before that film went into production, and also recently participated in the Transformers writers room for Paramount. Adam McKay will help pitch in with the story, which is a nice confirmation of an an interview snippet from yesterday. Barrer & Ferrari will then be joined in scripting duties by Paul Rudd, which is no surprise considering his input into Ant-Man's screenplay once Edgar Wright had departed the project. Retaining the screenwriting talent who assisted with the first picture is an obvious move, and one that will help with maintaining quality going into the sequel. A lot of people were surprised by how good Ant-Man was, and it's my wager that Ant-Man And The Wasp will surpass the first film in terms of box office, if not quality. Making the Wasp a headliner is regardless a strong, progressive move - about damn time, as Hope Van Dyne would say - and could serve to bring in more of a female demographic when the movie bows in a few years' time. Ant-Man And The Wasp is scheduled for release on 6 July 2018.
