Apocalyptic novel The Swarm gets film adaptation

the-swarm.jpgFrank Schatzing's best selling novel The Swarm is set to be transformed into a big-budget disaster movie. Dino and Martha De Laurentiss and three German producers are said to be on board. Ted Tally, who has made a career after turning novels into movies (The Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, The Juror) has been hired to scribe the adaptation.
Story is about an alien presence that exists quietly on the ocean floor and is compelled to destroy humanity after its eco-system is disrupted by pollution. Scientists race to stave off an apocalypse.
Hollywood really doesn't put much faith into the future of Mankind when it comes to our problems with ecology. The Day After Tomorrow, M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming movie The Happening, Al Gore's critically successful film An Inconvenient Truth and so many more I'm probably forgetting... are all carrying the message that we are going to pay dearly for the way we are treating our planet.
