Apostle Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

Downs...

3. It's WAY Too Long

The most obvious complaint about the film is that it's sorely in need of another pass in the editing room. 130 minutes isn't a particularly indecent run-time for a movie, but Evans really makes you feel the length, particularly in the rather slow, even plodding first half.

Evans repeats a lot of the same points over and over again in the stead of building suspense, which while effective to a point, also feels a tad overdone in that opening hour.

There's clearly a tightly-paced 110-minute film somewhere in here, but without a studio executive begging Evans to tighten things up, the end result feels a little on the over-indulgent side.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
