Aquaman: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

8. Aquaman Will Finally Get The Respect He Deserves

While the meme-ification of Aquaman has been a largely-accepted practice over the years, it's important to recognize that the character is far from his 1970s Superfriends counterpart. He's a force to be reckoned with on both land and sea, especially when he's got his trident around. Then there's the whole 'being one with the fish' thing, where it's upgraded from riding dainty little fish to fighting alongside massive Great White Sharks.

This is the modern Arthur Curry that comic fans have loved for years now, and it's about time that movie audiences catch up on who the character truly is. Not a cheesy surfer dude or Captain Planet type who talks to fish, but a king of the ocean who'll take on any challenge, whether it's on solid ground or not. If there's anyone who fits that interpretation, it's Jason Mamoa.

Mixing Mamoa's own personality with the relaunched badass persona from the source material, audiences will have an Arthur Curry that makes those Aquaman jokes feel horribly dated.
