Although the Russos were teasing a possible Infinity War appearance for Captain Marvel just last year, Joe has just ruled out the possibility. Speaking to ComicBook.com, he said: "She's not in Avengers 3."

That does make a certain amount of sense, especially given the news that her own solo film - which arrives almost a year after Infinity War - is set in the 90s. Since the character is largely unknown to mainstream audiences, and hasn't appeared yet in live-action, it could be too confusing to have her appear in the present day MCU and then jumping back to the past.

However, while he does say she won't be in the movie, that does leave open the possibility of the post-credits scene. There are a few movies announced to come after Infinity War - Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers 4, Homecoming 2 - but Captain Marvel could benefit strongly from a post-credits sequence. It would be a way of teasing the character's own movie, which in turn could lay the groundwork for her to appear in Avengers 4.

There's also the question of whether the movie will be sowing the seeds of the Skrulls. Since they're the threat in Captain Marvel, it has been speculated we could see a Secret Invasion style storyline play out into Phase 4, so even if we don't get Captain Marvel, might there be some setup of that?
