Avengers: Infinity War - Thanos' Plan Might Not Actually Involve Death

So much for that Lady Death appearance...

Forget what you thought you knew: Thanos might not be seeking to unify the Infinity Stones in order to impress Death as in the Infinity Saga in the comics.

According to writer Stephen McFeely - thanks to the Doctor Strange blu-ray special features (via ScreenRant) - his overall plan is in fact more of a generally evil plot to exert power over the universe.

“His goal is to re-balance the universe as he sees it. So when he figures out that the Infinity Stones could do this for him at the snap of a finger, that becomes his main goal.”

Notice, no mention of Death, no mention of impressing anyone, just a superior being's arrogant desire to shape the universe. Like Ultron, Loki, Magneto, Apocalypse... Not the greatest news really, if it does indeed play out this way.

So, has the plan changed? Or is McFeely just being deliberately obtuse? Think back to Thanos' first appearance in the MCU - in the stinger on The Avengers - when The Other delivered this line...

"Humans. They are not the cowering wretches we were promised. They stand. They are unruly, and therefore cannot be ruled. To challenge them is to court...Death."

Thanos' turn to camera at that "court Death" point might as well have been accompanied by an 80s guitar riff and manically raised eyebrows, signifying that this would be a Major Plot Point. Maybe that will still be the case: it would be awful if the whole Death element were relegated to little more than an Easter Egg, and it's not like a writer would play his hand this early... Right?

So maybe there's still hope...
