If nothing else, Batman and Robin kept Batman in the public eye. For good or bad, it was a memorable movie and kept public interest going in a fading Batman. Batman and Robin is a rather unforgettable viewing experience, which you cannot say for many movies, or even most bad comic book movies. Take Superman Returns. When was the last time you even thought about Superman Returns? That movie came and went with hardly a wave of interest. Batman and Robin, by contrast, ingrained itself in the viewers memories, making it impossible to be forgotten. Among many film buffs (or even casual film viewers) who see so many movies a year they cannot remember half, it is an important thing to make an impression and leave a mark.
