5. Batman Is An Urban Legend
The Rumour: Batman’s existence has not been publicly confirmed, and he operates like a mythological figure who catches criminals, much to the government’s chagrin.
What It Means For The Movie: Put simply, we’re in for a radically different Batman. This is likely a Batman that is not well-known to the public, as evidenced by Clark’s desire to write an expose on him. But Perry White’s admonishment of this idea also means that this is also likely a Batman that is shrouded in terror.
On top of his mythological status, Batman’s methods also seem to be much more violent and harsh, exemplified with the Batman symbol somehow branded into a criminal. These tactics would certainly explain why Superman sees him as a “one-man reign of terror.”
While the brutality may be new, Batman having the upper hand most certainly isn’t. With his persona such a mystery, it gives his character the upper hand strategically against his very public foe, and will likely mean that his introduction to Superman will be something grand and of his own choosing.
Finally, since character development is usually built on change, it seems like a safe bet that Batman’s mythic status will become very public knowledge by the end of the film.
