Beauty & The Beast Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. It's Definitely Too Long

The new Beauty and the Beast clocks in at a meaty 129 minutes, a whole 45 minutes longer than the animated version, and while this does give the movie a grand opportunity to further flesh out the Beast as a character in particular, the movie is also excessively padded out with scenes that don't really add anything.

There's no reason this film couldn't have been around 20 minutes shorter and all the better for it. Instead, it has a rather slow start and sags again in the middle, before ramping up for a breakneck third act.
