Borat - Critics Reviews

2006_09_arts_borat.jpg is released this week in the US and is seriously getting the best reviews of any film this year. Even better than Scorsese'sThe Departed, which is quite incredible for a comedy like this one. Although not my type of thing, Sacha Baren Cohen has really caught onto something here that people are really warming too. Here is the critics reviews... "A comic put-on of awe-inspiring crudity and death-defying satire and by a long shot the funniest film of the year. It is Jackass with a brain and Mark Twain with full frontal male nudity". -Ty Burr, The Boston Globe " combines the chameleon-like talent of Peter Sellers and the obsessive conviction of Andy Kaufman. What emerges is pure genius". - Pam Grady, Reel.com "Absurd, outrageous, gross, disturbing, insightful, and so funny it€™ll burst half the blood vessels in your face". - Dan Jolin, Empire Magazine "It's scathing satire, audacious, ridiculous and screamingly riotous -- but it's not mean-spirited. It's just funny. Good heavens, is it ever funny". - Eric D. Snider, Ericdsnider.com "In an era of stale, formulaic comedies, this uproarious and ribald faux documentary is like a hit of pure oxygen". - Claudia Pluig - USA Today The movie is currently scoring a 96% FRESH! rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 5 out of 125 reviews giving it a negative review. Incredible. It's not even the type of movie that critics would usually praise which makes it even more an impressive feat for Cohen. I really had no desire to watch this movie but who knows, if I get chance I might just catch it now with these reviews. Surely though, it can't be better than The Departed.. can it? source - rotten tomatoes
