Cannes 2015: The Sea Of Trees - What Went Wrong? (Video)

The reasoning behind the critical boos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X6E-E82H9Y Going into Cannes 2015, The Sea Of Trees was the In Competition film to watch. Directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Matthew McConaughey, it was a cross-cultural story that dealt with the complex issue of suicide in a setting that offered visual sumptuousness. So it's an unexpected turn of events when the film is loudly booed at the press screenings and appears to be one of the Festivals biggest slip-ups. The reviews are steadily coming in (you can read our assessment of it here), but what exactly does the film do so wrong to make it such a despised entrant? And does it do anything right that makes up for the major issues? Sam and Alex cut through all the shock and hate to deliver their thoughts on what's likely to be the biggest talking point from Cannes 2015. Keep an eye out for more Cannes content throughout the rest of the festival on the site, our YouTube channel, and on Facebook and Twitter. The Sea Of Trees has been picked up for distribution by Lionsgate, so you can expect it to head to a cinema near you in the coming year (if you think you can bear it after this video).
