Captain America: Civil War - 8 Plot Twists No One Will See Coming

3. Captain America Takes Over S.H.I.E.L.D.

In another role reversal from the comics, Captain America being the one to take over S.H.I.E.L.D. (or the Avengers Facility) at the end of Civil War isn't something that fans are going to see coming. With Steve Rogers behind bars, the comic book ends with Tony Stark being appointed as the new leader of this government organisation, a role he held on to until Cap's resurrection. In his Super Soldier persona, the patriotic superhero took over S.H.I.E.L.D. while Bucky inherited the mantle of Captain America. Rather than following the comics by having Iron Man emerge as the victor from this conflict, the movie has the opportunity to do something a little different, either by having the heroes ultimately team up to take on a greater threat upon realising that the Accords are the brainchild of a villain looking to manipulate them or by having Captain America be the one who is ultimately shown to be in the right. Giving Chris Evans this new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would open the door to Bucky finally becoming Captain America - something many fans have been dreaming of since the second Sebastian Stan was cast - and gives Steve Rogers a very interesting new role in this world as we head into a phase which is going to introduce a lot of new heroes and culminate with the sure to be epic Avengers: Infinity War. If this leads to Cap once again wielding the shield to take on Thanos, then even better!
