In a much needed bit of good news for the DC Extended Universe, early buzz for Suicide Squad is solid. In just the past couple of weeks we've had rumours of a Margot Robbie-produced Harley Quinn film and reports from a fan screening were overwhelmingly positive. Of course, the same was true of Batman V Superman (had anybody been able to figure out why anyone would give this film a standing ovation), but it's certainly promising.

Especially given how it sounds like that Harley spin-off is just the first of many. According to a source for We Got This Covered, we can expect sequels and standalones galore (essentially what DC wanted for the Justice League, but with widespread fan support):

"Theyre going to do a sequel for sure, and the recently announced spinoff with Margot Robbie has got everyone excited, too, but their plans dont end there. The studio is feeling very confident in the property. They think its going to be a really big hit and they think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters.Ive heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up. The Joker is a definite possibility for a spinoff, and Jared seems up for it from what Ive been told. Theyre also really hot on Jai Courtneys character Boomerang right now. Nothings set in stone yet, but youre definitely going to be seeing a lot more of these guys in the years to come.

At this point it's not too surprising, but is still quite interesting to hear these rumblings. I was under the impression Suicide Squad was conceived as a Joker film to some degree, but clearly it's possible to get more of crazy Jared Leto.

And a Captain Boomerang movie? What's crazier than that is I'd probably see it - Jai Courtney is usually offensively uncharismatic, but from what we've seen of him in trailers, here he looks funny, well-timed and completely in-character.

Suicide Squad is in cinemas from 5th August.
