Captain Marvel: 9 MCU Loose Ends It Answers

7. How The Avengers Got Their Name

In hindsight, the name 'Avengers' does seem a little bit eccentric. The original mantra of 'Protector' was arguably the more sensible choice. But now we know that the former name was chosen with the utmost affection, as the 'Carol "Avenger" Danvers' writing on the side of her jet was a discovery synonymous with Fury's decision to create a homegrown defensive force for Planet Earth.

As with a few of these points, it plants the idea that Captain Marvel has indeed been an integral presence to the MCU since day one. Some fans have struggled with Captain Marvel contributing to the final Endgame battle, having not loved, lost, and earned her stripes the way the other characters have. But this crucial easter egg explains how Carol Danvers actually represents the historical embodiment of what the Avengers stand for. So if anything, she should be treated as a kind of deity.

Her return as the first Avenger deserves then to be heralded, as this is a title that cannot be legally used by anyone else... except maybe Steve Rogers.
