Captain Marvel Trailer 3 Reactions: 5 Ups & 2 Downs

1. Obi-Wan Jude-Law's Twist Is Too Heavily Sign-Posted

Marvel very much want us to think something about Jude Law's character.

The so-far-mysteriously-unnamed mentor figure is a Kree who clearly trains Marvel on the Kree homeworld to prepare her for her role in the war with the Skrull. Those training sequences are very much set-up to make it seem like she's her people's chosen one and he's her Obi-Wan-like master.

But it's impossible not to notice how heavily the trailer (and indeed all of the marketing) is leaning on him not being what he seems. He's grumpy, ominous and vaguely threatening and we're being fed a very clear picture of him. Almost like Marvel WANT us to know he's probably a bad guy.

That either means they're spoiling their own story or it means they're misleading everyone with a red herring that will eventually dissolve as soon as Jude Law's true identity is revealed. Either way, it's all very obvious and that's just distracting.

Now to the positives...
