Captain Marvel Trailer 3 Reactions: 5 Ups & 2 Downs

5. The Music

Captain Marvel NIN
Marvel Studios

While the first trailer was clever with its 1990s referencing (that Blockbuster nod was very effective, even if it annoyed some people), the second seemed to ignore the setting as a purely incidental element. That was a mistake since Marvel's decision to shift the timeline back to that period is very deliberate and very important (if only so that Scott Lang can turn up... possibly). So it's good to see them being more overt about the references.

That also means we get something that is always welcome in Marvel trailers - real-world pop music in place of the score music that can sometimes be a little generic and uninspiring. We've seen how well that can work in the past with Guardians Of The Galaxy predominantly and it really works here as a conscious reminder that this film is set in a specific time period (just as Carol's NIN tee does).

If you're wondering, that music is Elastica's "Connection."
