Captain Marvel Vs Wonder Woman: Which Is Better?

12. Direction

Wonder Woman
Warner Bros.

Neither film is an easy standout in this regard, though Patty Jenkins certainly did a solid job with Wonder Woman.

She's a little too in-love with slow-motion - perhaps in an attempt to ape the style of Zack Snyder - and some of the action consequently comes off a tad cheesy, but her work with the cast in dialogue-centric scenes is far more effective.

Much like Jenkins, Captain Marvel's Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck come from an indie film background, and they similarly seem far more at home with the intimate character-driven scenes than the set-pieces.

WINNER: Ultimately Captain Marvel's direction is much spottier than Wonder Woman - the pacing is all over the place (especially early on), the action is occasionally incoherent and it feels a bit like Boden and Fleck were out of their depth.

You don't really get the same sense from Jenkins, who makes confident choices throughout and her film feels all the more gathered and holistic as a result, flaws and all.
