Channing Tatum Could Lead PETER PAN BEGINS

We never asked for a sequel to Alice in Wonderland but we sure got one last year and the Tim Burton directed Johnny Depp candy coloured & creatively redundant mess went on to become one of the highest grossing films of 2010. Similarly, we never asked for a prequel to The Wizard of Oz but we imagine Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco will be one of the financial success stories of next year. But we can't help but think that the latest fairytale revamp project is strecthing things a little. The Hollywood Reporter say 30 year old actor Channing Tatum is being courted to star in Peter Pan Begins, an origin story of the Neverland boy who never grew up that will be written by Billy Ray (Shattered Glass, Breach) and is now shopping around town in the hopes of attracting a buyer. You probably won't be surprised to hear that Joe Roth, the producer behind Alice in Wonderland, Oz The Great and Powerful and the soon to be shooting Snow White and the Huntsmen, is the genuis behind the idea. He's certainly making a pretty packet from playing off the nostalgia of our childhoods and from the sounds of things he isn't ready to stop yet. The pitch has just gone out to studio's today so nothing else is known of the project but presumably, Tatum is being eyed for the Hook role? Or something? Unless there's a huge change planned for JM Barrie's tale, especially one that will be an origin tale, I just don't see how a movie about the boy who never grew old could be lead by a 30 year old actor?
