Charlize Theron Joins Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS

It's now official - Charlize Theron has entered talks to star in Prometheus, the 'original' sci-fi project from Ridley Scott that sounds more and more like it will in fact be set in the Alien universe. Variety don't tell us which character she is playing but it's likely to be the 'hot but tough' Vickers. She joins the already cast Noomi Rapace (as Elizabeth Shaw) and Michael Fassbender (as an Android), it what is already looking like a multi-cultured cast similar to the one he initially brought together in the late 70's. So the big question now on everyone's mind is whether Prometheus is an Alien movie or not? Here's what we know.... Nearly a month ago when the title change was announced screenwriter Damon Lindelof claimed Prometheus would use "strands of Alien's DNA" to create €œa new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place€ and €œthe ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.€ But quotes since claim that the Aliens do in fact make an appearance in the new film, which like it or not would make it a spin-off. And even Michael Fassbender would recently claim to MTV that €œthere€™s a definite connecting vein€ between €œAlien€ and €œPrometheus.€
€œWhen I read it, I was like, €˜Well, okay, another Alien. Where do you go with this idea?€™ And then I sort of read the script, and it€™s new, yet it€™s in keeping with the old traditions as well. But there€™s a whole new revelation within this film,€ he says. He also adds that the film will likely be back-loaded with action, letting the story and characters build first. €œThere€™s action in it,€ he said, €œbut the intelligence is what struck me when I read it. It€™s more sort of like the original ones. There are things happening and building, and the intelligence of the first two-thirds of the film gets you ready for the action.€
Ridley Scott's Promethus opens June 8th, 2012 and will film soon.
