Christopher Plummer joins THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

I'm not prepared to look forward to David Fincher's now-shooting crime thriller 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', my mind is still firmly focused on 'The Social Network' - which I have not yet seen, but after reading Mark's high-praise review from New York last week, I'm barely looking forward to any movie more. 'The Social Network' is released in the U.S. tomorrow, but not for another two here in the U.K. It's kind of like being told Christmas is going to fall in January for Brits, completely unreasonable. Anyway, I'm here to talk about 'Tattoo' - and THR say Christopher Plummer will play Henrik Vanger, the rich industrialist who sends Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) on a quest to solve a four decade old murder. Plummer replaces Max Von Sydow, who was in early talks. If I had a straight choice between Von Sydow and Plummer, I would always go for Von Sydow (wasn't he great this year in 'Robin Hood' and 'Shutter Island', still taking names at 81). Though weighing up the options of either is like saying which is better - two five pound notes or one individual tenner. Alongside Plummer and Craig are Rooney Mara, winner of Obsessed With Film's Worst Performance of 2010 for her turn in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. She plays Lisbeth Salander, the bi-sexual goth, who is prone to violent outbursts and is something of a computer genius. Supporting are Robin Wright formerly Penn and Stellan Skarsgaard (naturally, in a Swedish based thriller). Fincher is working from a Steve Zaillian ('Schlinder's List', 'Gangs of New York') script, and the movie is due for a December 22nd, 2011 release.
