CLOVERFIELD 2 "not a literal sequel"

Mystery man J.J. Abrams told fans at the Con that the much discussed Cloverfield 2 would not be a "literal sequel" if it ever gets off the ground - fueling the argument that the movie would be set at the same time as the original just from a different handheld p.o.v.

€œThere€™s something we€™re playing with now that may or may not happen. There€™s an idea we have that plays with€ it€™s not a literal sequel.
Cloverfield director Matt Reeves also confirmed he would be back on board for a potential sequel. Which sounds all very exciting but it wouldn't quite have that hard hitting original concept which grabs you and made $40 million in it's opening weekend. It would essentially be the same story, just with different characters. Which is fine and all, but I think J.J. might possibly be able to cook something a little different up here. Maybe delete the handheld gimmick altogether? source - /film
