Comic Book Movies: 5 Great Villains And 5 That Were Awful

4. Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe)

GoblinDafoe

A new generation of movie audiences were introduced to Willem Dafoe thanks to his 2002 portrayal of Spider-Man's nemesis the Green Goblin. Dafoe delivers a complex portrayal of a man who has both admiration for Peter Parker and pure hatred for his alter-ego Spider-Man. His descent in to madness following his dismissal from Oscorp - the company he created - combined with the smarmy, seedy, slightly sinister nature of his character in the first place makes for one of the more interesting aspects of the Sam Raimi trilogy. Indeed, Dafoe made cameos in both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, despite the fact that his character was killed off in the first installment. Quote: "You've spun your last web, Spider-Man. If you had not been so selfish, your little girlfriend's death would have been quick and painless but, now that you've really pissed me off, I'm gonna finish her nice and slow! MJ and I, we're gonna have a hell of a time!"
