This past weekend, thousands of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars fans flocked to the Anaheim convention center in hopes of taking a gander of the upcoming live action films produced by Disney, meeting celebrities and attending Q and As with the directors, producers and writers of these highly-anticipated films.

Whatever new films fall under the Disney brand, audiences everywhere know they’ll be getting amazing storylines, brilliant talent and direction and amazing production values! If you’ve missed the news, here’s a list of new live action films to be produced by Disney in 2013 and 2014!

Thor 2: The Dark World

Professional movie reviewer, Michael Pilney praised the amazing production values of the first installment of Marvel’s Thor. The first film dealt with the inner struggles of the fallen god as well as his interpersonal relationship with his brother and father. In Thor 2: The Dark World, director Alan Taylor promises a lot more action (Asgardians vs. Dark Elves), a much more intense storyline and an expansion of Thor’s romantic relationship with Natalie Portman’s character. The film is set to be released Nov. 8, 2013.

Saving Mr. Banks

Apart from all the other projects being developed by Disney, Saving Mr. Banks is an up coming film that sheds light on the life of the legendary Walt Disney during the production of the 1964 film, Mary Poppins. We can expect the talents of Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson as Mr. and Mrs. Walt Disney. This bio-pic is set to be released in select theaters on Dec. 13, 2013 and nationwide on Dec. 20, 2013.

Captain America: Winter Soldier

The first Captain America film told the story of how actor Chris Evan’s character, Steve Rogers, became this patriotic soldier back in 1940s WWII. Now, audiences are promised an action-packed sequel that will expand on Steve’s adjustment to the modern world. The film is said to involve a conspiracy that threatens both his life and that of Black Widow (yes, she’s in it too), which will force Steve to confront one of his biggest foes, the Winter Soldier. The release date for Captain America: Winter Soldier is April 4, 2014.

Maleficent

We’ve been hearing rumors of the plot revolving around the new Maleficent film for quite a while now. The D23 Expo shed some light on what we’ve heard so far. Starring Academy Award winner, Angelina Jolie, Maleficent tells the tale of a young-pure hearted woman that must act to defend against invading forces on her land. Maleficent rises as a fierce protector, but after a betrayal, her heart turns to stone and becomes hell-bent on revenge, and thus, faces an epic battle with the throne’s successors. However, in time, she realizes that the happiness of the kingdom (and perhaps Maleficent’s as well) may rely on the survival of a young princess. Maleficent is set to release July 2, 2014.

Guardians Of The Galaxy

Not much is known about this Marvel film, but two things are promised: a cast of A-list actors and action throughout! The premise of the film involves a group of futuristic ex-cons lead by an American pilot that run away from authorities with a highly coveted object. Among these characters are Chris Pratt as the Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Sean Gunn as the voice of Rocket Raccoon. The film is planned to be released on Aug. 1, 2014.

Into The Woods

Among the many films anticipated in 2014, Into the Woods is definitely something to watch. The film stars Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt, all of which are story book characters that live in the Enchanted Forest in the Disneyverse. The story surrounds a baker and his wife’s quest to break a witch’s curse. To do so, they must journey into the woods; there, they meet an array of colorful characters that aid them in their quest. The film is set to be released on December 2014.
It’s definitely an exciting time for Disney and Marvel fans! This year and 2014 are sure to be jam-packed with exciting films with fresh storylines, amazing characters and state-of-the-art production values!
