Darren Aronofsky's seventh film, Mother!, is in cinemas now, and while you may or may not be a fan of everything he's released over the last two decades, it's fair to say that Aronofsky is one of the most uniquely innovative directors working today.
From grounded dramas to a big-budget blockbuster and even some divergences into surreal, over-the-top horror, Aronofsky's filmography is as diverse as it is entrancing, and whether you prefer his lower-budget origins or more ambitious recent features, his films typically offer an experience like nothing else out there.
The polarising nature of many of his movies means that opinion on his best and worst films is typically all over the place, and there's nothing even remotely approaching a consensus. Some find his experimental genre films tough to get through, while others find his earlier work too sober and subdued.
With that in mind, and including his newest movie in the mix, it's time to make some sort of sense of the fascinating filmmaker's output so far...
